Hello tjay,

The men listed on the memorial are only those who are buried in 'common ground' in St. Kentigern's, i.e. they don't have an individual stone marking where they're buried. (Stones are not permitted on common ground.)

Your great uncle, Pte. Walter Hendrick is not buried in St. Kentigern's, he's buried in Section D, Lair 15 of Bootham Cemetery, Heninel, France.

From CWGC:

Location Information: Heninel is a village in the Department of the Pas-de-Calais, 10 kilometres south-east of Arras and 3 kilometres south of the straight main road from Arras to Cambrai. Bootham Cemetery is a long row of graves, nearly 2 kilometres east of Heninel on the south side of the road to Cherisy. From Heninel centre take the Rue St Germain and then a 1 kilometre track to the cemetery.

Historical Information: Heninel village was captured in a snowstorm on 12 April 1917 by the 56th (London) and 21st Division. The 50th (Northumbrian) Division, advancing from Heninel on the two following days, captured Wancourt Tower. Bootham Cemetery was named from a trench, which in turn was named from Bootham School in Yorkshire. It was made in April 1917 by the 56th Division Burial Officer. The cemetery contains 186 First World War burials, 71 of them unidentified.

If you are looking for a memorial rather than a gravestone. As far as I have been able to tell, Maryhill never erected a war memorial although he may possibly be listed on a church memorial in the area.

You might like to read this thread on our sister project (Scottish War Memorials Project). http://warmemscot.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?t=478&mforum=warmemscot

The City of Glasgow Roll of Honour which is in the city chambers is probably your best bet.

Good luck

\Paul
