Hi there,

This posting is to announce that I have been successful in getting WW1 Private Alexander Petrie, born 14 December 1897, Rattray, Perthshire, officially commemorated.

Alexander enlisted in the Army Service Corps and he was in the Horse Transport, number T4/061835. He was discharged and "sent home to die" of T.B. Luckily, his Service Record survived and his medical history proved that he was kept on duty for a long time, whilst ill. He died back home in Rattray, on 02 April 1917.

He was a 'Non-Commemorated' man! With help from SWGP members and significant others, I was able to put together a good application and this was submitted in January this year. I heard this morning that the application had been successful Very Happy

Alexander was buried in Blairgowrie Cemetery but, to this day, his grave bears no headstone. So, it is only fitting that (once his lair has been surveyed etc) Alexander will receive an official CWGC stone.

I had to come on to the Forum and share this good news with you all. Once I have received an update re his headstone, I shall go to the local press and "sing it from the (Blair) hill-tops" .....

Hello all you fine people ....

Just to update you - I heard from the CWGC Regional Supervisor for Scotland last week. He gave me the good news that Alexander's headstone has been ordered for erection in Blairgowrie Cemetery. It is hoped that it will be erected some time next year. It will be made of granite.

I am quietly proud that I have been able to do this for my relative - I know others of you have achieved this success too, so you will know how good I feel.

Thanks for all your support - it is invaluable. Heather
